This week marks the 22nd edition of the Montreal’s Fashion Week and like every season, our catwalk artists are dazzling us. Just during the first day we were treated to Tavan & Mitto, Duy, Melissa Nepton and Marie Saint-Pierre.
Why am I mentioning this event here, in our blog? Simply put, both of our universes are linked on many level. We treat our tables like models and our tablecloth like the latest trends and it has never been more obvious than this year. The “in” colours are often requested and whether fads are vintage, modern or the next post-something will affect what our event organisers and wedding planners will be asking out of us. The “prêt-à-porter” and tabletop design are often related.
After seeing the fashion shows of this years first day, it was without a doubt that yellow and black were full force this season. T&M, Muse and Saint-Pierre all used these shades to different degrees, exactly like we had done… last spring. Are we visionaries, maybe we are the inspiration after all? Not really, just like fashion designers, our own designers make sure to be alert of the latest trends and give you exactly what you will demand from us.

We left carte-blanche to a team of event designers asking them to do what they wanted with some of our tabletops accessories. We offered the floor of our showroom and opened the doors of our new warehouse, this is what the team composed by Selina D’Alessandro of MyMontrealWedding.ca created ??just within a few hours. The team was composed of floral arrangements by NDG Florist and JAS Floral Decor, the paper design Creative Expressions, all captured by the lenses of the photographer from Six Degrees in Motion.

When you think cotton candy, you probably thinking of those pink and blue sugar balls that can be bought at fairs. But there is more to this delicacy than you think. For starters, a little history, known as “Fairy Floss” at his appearance at the St. Louis World Fair in 1904. Cotton candy is an American invention that was originally created in 1897 when candy-makers William Morrison and John C. Wharton invented an electric machine which was heating crystallized sugar on a hot plate and pushed by centrifugal force through very small holes. A relatively unchanged concept is used today.
Cotton candy flavours are mostly based on color more than on flavour of the product. At Bravo we sell 100% “pink”, a flavour also known as “bubblegum”, but when we are asked what flavour we sell, we only have to say “pink” And it’s automatic, our customers know what we are talking about.
Candy floss bring in us it’s fair share of memories no matter how old you are, everyone will remember having tasted this delight when we were kids. More recently, the cotton candy is getting out of circuses and sidewalk sales to appear in some the most recognized restaurants in the world. A mix of molecular gastronomy and childhood memories.
Some have heard of foie gras or coffee flavored cotton candy, in Quebec it is obvious that the flavour that comes up most regularly is that of maple. The Pied de Cochon sugar shack and 2 Laurie Raphaël of Montréal and Quebec offer as a decoration with desserts maple sugar flavored floss. But you can also do this flavour at home and add to your dessert for the holiday season a touch of nostalgia. You just need granulated maple sugar that can be purchased from Maple Delights in Old Montreal and one of our rental machines to create this totally unique treat
If you consider that the cotton cnady contains less sugar than a can of regular soft drink and its calorific value is almost zero, it will make a great addition to any event, no matter the season. Whether you want “pink” or something a little more gourmet. Simply return to childhood with this candy.
Here is what the result was when we experimented with maple flavored candy floss in our Montreal warehouse.

This area south of downtown Montreal was from the 19th century until the 60′s an important point for many Irish and other immigrants in our city, at this time Griffintown is zoned by the city of Montreal as Light Industrial, but that’s about to change. In recent years, Griffintown has been the talk of the town, the area between Pointe St. Charles and the Old Port is a borough of choice for its location and a rare chance to develop very close to the center of town. Almost forgotten in the 70s, Griffintown will soon be one of the most fashionable suburbs of Greater Montreal.
This change begins for our industry with the arrival of a new event space, Espace Griffintown offer a unique atmosphere with the industrial charm worthy of the history of this neighborhood.
Some technical specification; can accommodate 50 to 800 guests with available subdivisions in 6500 square feet including a 1,000 square feet mezzanine and two truck level loading docks, trust me, your suppliers will thank you. Several parking spaces and enough electricity to create a full kitchen for serious caterers.
This atmosphere gives you a blank canvas just waiting for your creation.

For a thrid year in a row, Wednesday, Bravo was one of the proud major sponsors joining corporate giants like Gildan and Air Canada for a foodie evening in favour of « Dans la Rue ». Organise by Tassone Events « De la Rue aux Étoiles », a gastronomic contest also had the chance to host some of the city’s top chefs.
Chefs from restaurants such as Barroco, Bice, Boucan, Chez L’épicier, Ferreira Café, Garde-Manger, Jolifou, Pied de Poule, Pintxo and Le St-Urbain were going at it in a full war to know who would offer the best version of the traditional poutine judged by the public, but also by some well known food critics.
Each restaurant had to offer their own vision of the poutine, from braised veal to a dessert version, any tastes buds could have been pleased. Even a full sweet table for dessert was dressed by none other then Bilboquet ice cream and Itsy Bitsi cupcakes (and others, but I forgot the names, sorry!)
As for the competition itself, the judges picked the bell potatoes with chorizo and serra cheeze poutine from Ferreira Café while the public chose the original idea from Le St-Urbain. Mashed potato with braised veal, cheddar and truffle sauce poutine.
For a third year in a row, Bravo offered all the cooking equipment necessary for the chefs to create their artwork and all the furniture to make the place a little bit more comfortable. We also offered our own time with technical support, labour and transport for the cause. We even offered live tweet from our a href=”http://twitter.com/#search?q=dlr2010″>Twitter extraordinaire.
For a more thorough look at the gastronomic part of the evening, I suggest you read this post from 2Captricieux and their blog « J’ai faim, toi? » and for nice pictures of the evening, take a look at the pretextes.ca’s Flickr account (also via J’ai faim, toi?)

The glitz and glam of Hollywood is all around us: on TV, in the magazines we read, in our dreams… but, let’s face it, not everyone can afford to spend the money that some celebrities do on their special day. This is why Bravo is here for you, offering you the wedding of your dreams at a fraction of the price.
Let me show you!
La vedette du film American Pie, Alyson Hannigan a choisi un déco aux thèmes tropical (Photo de http://www.instyle.com) à droite, les mêmes inspirations tropicales de chez Bravo.
With over 30 television or movie appearances under her belt, American Pie’s band camp girl, Alyson Hannigan, had the freedom to decorate her October 2003 wedding in a resplendent and costly tropical theme. At Bravo, for about $115.00 per table, about $20.00 per guest, look at how wonderful a similar setting could look for your Caribbean-inspired wedding.

Mariage en mauve tout comme Natasha
You don’t even have to write off having a wedding in the style of “Pocket Full of Sunshine” and “Unwritten” singer, Natasha Bedingfield. Natasha tied the knot in March 2009 with businessman Matt Robinson, and, although her wedding was considered more modest that most celebrity weddings, she still spent a pretty penny. Bravo can offer you Bedingfield’s style and simple elegance for under $15.00 per guest.
So, rather than squandering away enough to buy a few homes, your wedding will be much more reasonably-priced. That way you can splurge where it really counts… like your honeymoon!

Sometimes inspiration strikes us in weird ways, it looks like this bit of culinary inspiration has stuck one of our representative in special events. Maude has thus decided to use our Bianco Line and some other accessories such as the Monaco and Barcelona bowls to create small edible sculptures. A few years with some of the most renowned caterers in Montreal were probably a good spark to launch the artisitic in her.

In Montreal’s hockey history, many players have come and gone, but rare are the ones that made their mark like The Flower, Le Démon Blond or Guy, Guy, Guy!
For his birthday, more than 800 guests came to Mel’s Studios in a big event presented by Videotron’s Pay as you go. Lafleur’s fans were treated with Molson Ex and Forum’s style hot dogs, Temple of hockey and of the famous "steamé". The theme requested by the customer had to represent four famous 70s and 80s teams. The gold and black from the Boston Bruins, the navy and gold from the Buffalo Sabres, the eclectic purple and yellow from the L.A. Kings and of course our own Habs in red and white.
Bravo’s own team of 15 split in trios of forward and duos of defensemen to ensure that the event would start on time in this turn key project. Back the same evening for the whole take down and bringing back everything to home ice where we were proud of to say that we had given 110% and went for the win.

Sometime there is pure pleasure working with some customers, There is just something special to work with a client that knows what he wants. Jeff and Erin are simply this type of customers, they had a true image in their head of the look they wanted and we are really happy to have helped them bring it to life on this special day.
